MRS. BISHOP’S NEWSLETTER

A Bit of Information for Room 109 March 21, 2000

SPRING IS HERE!!

With the beginning of Spring, we also begin the final quarter of this school year. It won’t be long now, and we will be enjoying bright sunshine, lazy afternoons by the pool, and no homework! We have much to accomplish in these last two months of school. The children are working very hard, and doing a wonderful job. Please continue to encourage them to do their best, and enjoy the remaining days of their 2nd Grade year.

Congratulations to the following students who have met their reading goals from October through February: Melissa Bolter, Aubrey Brouillette, David Lee, and Cody Smoot. Daily practice in reading is the best way to become an excellent reader.

ARE WE READY TO RECEIVE THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST?

The Sacrament of Holy Eucharist is a very special and important event in the life of your child. If you have not already done so, please inform me of the date in which your child will be celebrating this Sacrament.

WHAT GOOD READERS DO

The following chart shows some of the strategies used by good readers. Please discuss these strategies with your child, so that he/she may use these helpful hints as they practice their reading at home.

Reread if you do not understand something.

Use pictures to help understand the story.

Use story clues and what you know to figure out what is happening.

Keep track of the order in which events happen in a story.

Make guesses about what will happen next.

Use other words in a sentence to figure out the meaning.

Picture in your mind what you are reading.

Use story clues and what you know to draw conclusions.

REPORT CARDS

Report Cards have been sent home with your child. Please be sure to sign and return the envelope. Your prompt attention to this matter will be greatly appreciated.

LENT

During this time of Lent, we are challenged to better ourselves through:

Prayer – For the good of our soul

Fasting – For the good of our body

Almsgiving – For the good of our neighbor.

May Lent be a time of repentance and renewal for all.

"IN THE NIGHT SKY"

The students in Room 109 have written poems in conjunction with their reading theme, "In the Night Sky." The following poems are for your enjoyment.

The bat bites at night

And the cat rack knats.

And the knats bug the rats.

And the dog barks at the fat bat.

A wolf howls at the towel

And badgers drag snaggers.

And the snakes are nacky and sneaky.

And thunder is bunder.

Porupines are pokey and spikey.

And skunks are stinkey and yacky.

Beavers are bitey but chipey.

And fireflys are firey and lighty and buzzey. -Joe Cummings

One time at night I went to the store

and found something cheap.

When I got inside Bakers I

heard a squeaking peep.

As soon as I heard it

then I started to leap.

And when I got outside

I was missing my Jeep.

-Jake Harter

Setting an example is not the main means of influencing another, it is the only means.

-Albert Einstein

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy.

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK!

I would like to know what you think about my first Newsletter. Please jot me a note to tell me your thoughts. Is this something you would like to see come home weekly, monthly, or even quarterly? How can I make it better? What information would you like me to place in a future Newsletter?

Communication between parents and teachers is very important. Your input on this matter will be taken into consideration as I plan my next Newsletter.

HAVE A HAPPY WEEK!!
